Georgetown-Scott County EMS honors retiring paramedic, approves promotion and ratifies dash-cam grant application

Scott County Fiscal Court on Sept. 25 honored Jennifer Wright for her service to Georgetown-Scott County Emergency Medical Services and approved internal EMS personnel actions and a grant application.

The court read a proclamation recognizing Wright’s career at GSC EMS, noting she began service Nov. 1, 2016; was promoted to captain Dec. 12, 2017; and to battalion chief Oct. 19, 2019. The proclamation listed awards and career highlights provided to the court as part of the ceremonial recognition.

The court also ratified a retroactive grant application to purchase Samsara dash cameras for county ambulances. County staff said the grant would cover the cost of outfitting ambulances and described the application as an 80/20 grant structure (as discussed in the meeting). The motion to ratify the grant application passed without recorded opposition.

Separately, the court approved Chief Runyon’s recommendation to promote Makayla Brandenburg to battalion chief effective Sept. 29, the start of the next pay period. Runyon told the court Brandenburg has worked with the agency since July 2019, rose from EMT to paramedic and to captain in July 2022, leads EMS training (including the department’s EMT class), and has no disciplinary history. Runyon said, “She’s proven to be diligent, task oriented and self motivated with attention to detail.” The motion to promote Brandenburg passed with a motion from Rob Jones and a second from Ryan Pratt.
