Commission adopts land-development changes to raise water and storage service rates

The City Commission on Sept. 25 adopted, on second reading, an ordinance amending the land development code to increase designated water and storage service rates. The vote was unanimous. The ordinance was presented as a second-reading item with no changes from the previous hearing. City staff stated there were no additional modifications and asked for adoption. The commission approved the ordinance on a 5-0 vote. During public comment before the vote, resident Joe Marrero asked for a comparative analysis showing how the new rates for residents who draw water from the city would compare with the rates charged by neighboring water providers (CSID and NSID). Marrero said roughly 75,000 residents draw water from the city and asked staff to provide the comparative pricing so residents can see how Coral Springs’ post-change rates align with adjacent systems. City staff did not present a comparative table during the meeting; the public comment request was entered into the record. The ordinance text itself amends the land development code to increase the specified water and storage service rates and provides for codification and an effective date. The commission adopted the ordinance and directed staff to implement the rate changes consistent with the adopted code amendment. Commissioners asked staff to track and report implementation details if residents request comparisons.
