Board approves reclaimed water connection fee for Beacon Lake homes, offers monthly payment option

St. Johns County commissioners on May 20 adopted a reclaimed water connection and meter fee for Beacon Lake phases 1–3 to allow access to reclaimed water for irrigation. Neal Shinkre, the county’s utilities director, told the board the fee is typically charged up front at time of construction and totals $1,280.83. To provide flexibility, the county will allow an interest-free monthly payment of $21.35 for 60 months for these customers. The fee will be added to Schedule H (Water, Reclaimed Water, and Wastewater Service Charges) of the county rate tariff and is effective June 1, 2025, upon Board approval. The board adopted Resolution No. 2025-178 on a motion by Commissioner Christian Whitehurst, seconded by Commissioner Ann Taylor, carried 4–0 with Commissioner Krista Joseph absent. The utilities department said reclaimed water is intended to foster water conservation and could reduce monthly potable-water use and bills for participating customers. No public comment was offered on this item at the hearing.
