Superintendent reports district grant successes, Health Trust timing and tax‑cap subcommittee schedule

The superintendent told the Budget Committee on Sept. 25 that district administrators are pursuing grant opportunities and provided three items the committee should expect in coming weeks: a small robotics grant awarded to the middle school, an October date for Health Trust rate information, and an upcoming public presentation of a tax‑cap subcommittee report.

The superintendent said the middle school "just received about $5,000 for robotics grants," and that those funds will support after‑school robotics activities. The superintendent also said the Health Trust board will meet Oct. 7 and the district expects to receive information about fiscal 2027 insurance rates following that meeting.

On local tax policy, the superintendent reported that the school board subcommittee studying the tax cap has completed its draft and that the subcommittee selected two presenters to bring the report to the full school board at a public meeting on Oct. 16: board member Mary Ann Springer and community member Sean O'Neil. The superintendent said the draft will be made available to budget committee members after the Oct. 16 presentation.

The superintendent also proposed small workshops for budget committee members and school board members to review district cash flow, revenue streams and how property taxes and state adequacy funds flow into district operations; Maria (named by the superintendent) will lead a session at the committee’s next meeting to walk members through revenue sources. The superintendent closed the administrative report by noting a virtual school visit calendar included in the committee packet and asking members to sign up for walkthrough dates.

No formal committee action was taken on the administrative report; committee members asked clarifying questions about timing and materials and were directed to forthcoming documents and presentations.
