La Jolla ISD on Sept. 10 publicly celebrated Diaz Villareal Elementary School’s designation as a National Blue Ribbon School. The superintendent and board recognized the principal, teachers and staff at a board meeting and described the award as a national recognition of school excellence.
Dr. Little explained that the application is intense and time‑consuming and that Principal Hinojosa and school staff compiled the narrative and evidence over many months. Principal Hinojosa called the award a community accomplishment and thanked staff and families. Superintendent Sorensen described the recognition as tied to “excellence” and student outcomes and praised the campus leadership and staff.
Why it matters: National Blue Ribbon status is a national recognition that highlights campus-level achievement and improvement and serves as a public acknowledgment of the school's instructional work and community partnership.
Next steps: the district and campus will continue to celebrate the designation and share recognition with the school community.
