The proclamation highlighted lithium-ion batteries as a growing household fire risk, noting that many common devices use those batteries. A representative from local fire rescue said the community has experienced several lithium-ion battery-related fires "in the last few years." The proclamation encouraged three calls to action: buy listed products, charge batteries safely and recycle them responsibly.
The open house will feature Fond du Lac Fire Rescue and other county fire departments, officials said. The proclamation and the event aim to raise awareness of safe battery use, proper charging and recycling to reduce fire risk in homes and the community.
No formal council vote was required for the proclamation; it was presented as a ceremonial proclamation and followed by remarks from local fire representatives.
