San Luis council member says city is pursuing internal transit application; state rep offers to advocate

A council member said Sept. 24 that the City of San Luis has submitted an application to pursue an internal transportation system and has sought support from state lawmakers. Council member Lizette Cervin reported that she and other local leaders met with state legislators, including Sen. Brian Fernandez and Representative Michelle Pena, and discussed transportation needs for the community. Cervin said she asked Pena for advocacy for the city’s application; she reported Pena said funding is limited but that she would advocate for San Luis once the application and supporting materials are submitted to her office. Cervin said the city has submitted an application to YCIPTA (the Yuma County Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority) to pursue implementation of an internal transportation system and that the city will forward documentation to the representative when ready. She noted that state funding is limited, and said the representative’s role would be advocacy rather than an immediate funding guarantee.
