The City Council liaison reported Sept. 23 that the Gold Line (A Line) extension opened for revenue passenger service with four additional stations from Glendora to Pomona and that planning for further extension to Claremont and Montclair faces cost and coordination challenges after a bid came in about $500 million over estimates.
The liaison also described a large federal competitive grant opportunity reported to be approximately $417 million available for charging infrastructure and clean-truck programs in the region and summarized regional programs for replacing diesel goods-movement vehicles and for battery-electric cargo-handling equipment. The liaison said Clean Air/port negotiations were underway with the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to define enforcement and funding mechanisms and that the agency had recently finalized a statewide incentive program that provides up to $3,000 to replace gas-fired household space or water heaters with heat-pump alternatives for qualifying households.
Ending: The liaison encouraged commissioners to review the handout posted with the agenda packet and to visit the new stations for the Gold Line extension.
