A bill filed May 29 would authorize the Boston Retirement Board to increase the accidental disability retirement allowance for Patricia M. Lampron to equal 100% of the average annual rate of regular compensation she would have received immediately before her injury, the filing says. Filed by Rep. Daniel J. Hunt (D-Boston) in the One Hundred and Ninety-Fourth General Court as House No. 4508, the measure says the adjustment would be made pursuant to section 90A of chapter 32 of the General Laws and would apply to Lampron, a retired head of school of the Dr. William W. Henderson K-12 Inclusion School in the Boston public schools, who the bill says became totally and permanently incapacitated as a result of injuries sustained while performing her duties on Nov. 3, 2021. The bill directs the Boston Retirement Board to make the annual pension amount equal to 100% of her average annual regular compensation immediately preceding the effective date had she not been injured, and states that amounts paid under the act would be non-taxable to the extent allowed under state and federal law. It also would require the board to pay Lampron the amount credited to her as accumulated total deductions in the annuity savings fund as of the act’s effective date and to provide indemnification for hospital, medical and related expenses incurred after her retirement as a result of the injuries. The filing notes that the petition accompanies House Bill No. 4508 and that local approval from the mayor and city council has been received. The measure says it is to be funded and administered by the Boston Retirement Board consistent with chapter 32 of the General Laws and that the act would take effect upon its passage. As filed, the bill is an authorization for the retirement board; the text does not record any committee action, vote, or further legislative steps. The bill would change the retirement board’s benefit and payment obligations if enacted.
