Council rezones 5829 North Thompson to C-5 for commercial use; applicant cites outdoor equipment storage

Springdale — The Springdale City Council on Sept. 23 voted unanimously to rezone 5829 North Thompson Street from general commercial to thoroughfare commercial (C-5), a change sought by new property owners to allow a refreshed facade and outdoor storage of larger equipment. The vote and the emergency clause were recorded 8-0.
Sharon Traumberg described the request as a change to C-5 to allow a new business and some outdoor storage. Caitlin Gibbs, representing the applicant and working for Will Kaelstrom, told the council, “They primarily deal with steel, and so it'll be a large steel beam. So they're trying to have retail use in, just have it out in the front.”
Why it matters: rezoning to C-5 allows uses tailored to thoroughfare commercial corridors, including outdoor storage and larger equipment display; the new owners said they plan façade improvements and to bring a retail use to the site.
What the council did: Planning commission recommended approval. A motion and second to adopt the ordinance passed; the emergency clause vote also carried 8-0.
Next steps: Applicant and planning staff will coordinate permits and code compliance for outdoor storage, signage, and building façade improvements in compliance with C-5 standards.
