Officials said they will use the after-action report from this year’s Party in the Park to create a standard operating procedure so future organizers can follow a checklist rather than recreate planning each year. A councilmember who reviewed the event said she and the mayor met and will adopt parts of the report as an SOP.
The councilmember said she will meet Friday with Brett Seibert at the Norfolk Sports Club and that a community donor’s annual contribution historically has been “3,500 and something” since 2016; she said she expects a similar amount this year but did not specify the exact figure. “I don't know what the exact amount had been, but I every year since we started this in 2016, it's been 3,500 and something. I'm expecting this probably what it would be,” she said.
Event programming for the upcoming reenactment will include actors portraying Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis and a role for “General Meade.” Organizers plan a staged “debate” between the Lincoln and Davis characters as a new feature; one official noted the two historical figures never met in real life. Organizers also described a children’s historical challenge: printed sheets with short “fun facts” for each presenter that participants can collect; completed sheets will earn recognition.
No formal budget appropriation or donation was recorded on the transcript; officials said they expect the customary donor support and will finalize logistics with event partners. Staff said additional details and check receipts will be confirmed at an upcoming meeting.
