Summary
Glendale City Council approved Ordinance O25‑40 to annex approximately 0.5 acres at Southeast Corner of Myrtle Avenue and 801st Avenue (Annexation Area 270). The annexation applies city R4 zoning consistent with multifamily use.
The Glendale City Council approved Ordinance O25‑40 on Sept. 23 to annex approximately 0.5 acres at the southeast corner of Myrtle Avenue and 801st Avenue as Annexation Area 270. The council conducted a roll-call vote and approved the ordinance.
Staff said the parcel is vacant and is intended to serve as open space for a multifamily townhouse development immediately south of the lot. In county records the lot was zoned R5 for multifamily residential; upon annexation the equivalent city zoning R4 would be applied. No rezoning action was required because R4 matches the intended multifamily residential use.
Cindy Tirella, senior planner with Development Services, presented the staff report and said the council had previously given consensus to proceed with the annexation and that a petition was brought to council on Aug. 26 with no public speakers. The council moved and seconded the ordinance; roll call votes were recorded as aye by Council Member Leandro Baldenegro, Council Member Lupe Conchas, Council Member Diana Guzman, Council Member Milner, Vice Mayor Lauren Tomlachoff, and Mayor Jerry Wires. The motion carried.
Staff noted the annexation map and that the annexed parcel is bordered by Glendale municipal limits to the northeast and south and by Maricopa County to the west. The annexation will place the parcel under Glendale planning and zoning regulations.
