Princeton approves rights-of-way agreement with SQF LLC for wireless infrastructure

The Mayor and Council of Princeton voted Sept. 23 to authorize a rights-of-way use agreement with SQF LLC that will permit the company to install poles and equipment to host wireless providers in municipal right-of-way locations previously used by Verizon. Council members said the company’s role is similar to Crown Castle: SQF is not a wireless-service provider but would own and operate physical infrastructure that providers, including Verizon, use to attach antennas and other equipment. The item was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; officials said the action ensures the municipality can collect compensation for right-of-way use. Council discussed that Verizon has decided to exit ownership of certain poles and is contracting with infrastructure managers such as SQF and Crown Castle to place and maintain poles. The municipal right-of-way agreement sets terms of use and compensation; staff said the specific installation in question had been previously approved as a location for Verizon and required the formal right-of-way agreement when ownership changed hands.
