Reporter raises records and maintenance concerns at Kenneth Clement Boys Leadership Academy

A parent and local education blogger told the board on Sept. 23 that maintenance requests and public records for Kenneth Clement Boys Leadership Academy (KCBLA) were delayed, incomplete or inconsistent with on‑site conditions. Polly Carr said she requested an air‑quality report and personnel file materials last May and received some items only after months of follow‑up and public‑records requests. She said a custodial personnel file lacked entries about custodial duties after 2017 and that building work orders took months to obtain. Carr visited the school exterior and described what she called “giant rodent holes” on every side of the building, which she said appeared to be structural and went deep into the ground. She said a recent checklist marked several items complete that she observed as unresolved. Carr also noted long‑term substitute teachers in core classes and cited low recent ELA proficiency scores (14 students proficient) as evidence that staffing and maintenance shortfalls were harming instruction. Her comments were made during the public participation period and asked the board and administration to address record‑keeping, maintenance follow‑through and staffing at KCBLA. The board did not take formal action during the Sept. 23 meeting.
