Staff say vehicle vandalism and theft on school property continues; ask board for investigation

An intervention specialist told the Board of Education on Sept. 23 that staff have experienced repeated vehicle vandalism and theft on school property and that district response has been insufficient. Adrienne Leonard Busby said she and colleagues have reported incidents since 2021 but have seen little visible preventative action. “This lack of acknowledgment has left staff feeling unsafe, unsupported, having to deal with financial inconveniences, and increasingly demoralized,” Leonard Busby said. She asked the board to investigate the incidents and implement continuous, effective security measures, saying staff safety “must be a priority.” Leonard Busby acknowledged that some matters may be collective bargaining issues but said the underlying safety concerns require leadership attention. The comments were made during the public comment portion of the meeting; there was no immediate board action at the Sept. 23 session. Leonard Busby asked the board to direct administration to investigate the incidents and report back on security measures to protect staff on district property.
