Parents say students still without district bus service six weeks into school year

A parent and educator told the Cleveland Municipal School District Board of Education on Sept. 23 that students at Miriam C. Seltzer were still waiting for district transportation six weeks into the school year. Pamika Bonner, who identified herself as a parent, grandmother and educator at Marion C. Seltzer, said she submitted bus requests on Aug. 18 and that students remained listed as walkers in PowerSchool because their addresses had not been updated to the building’s swing site. “It is week six of school and students at Miriam C. Seltzer are still waiting for transportation,” Bonner said. Bonner said families reported bus drivers not showing up at stops and that some assigned routes were not picking students up. She said the transportation department had acknowledged route problems but had not fixed them and that staffers Erin Anahosa and others had waited at stops with families when buses failed to appear. Bonner said she had communicated with district staff, including Eric Taylor and Karen Thompson, but the issues persisted. Her remarks were made during the public participation period; no board action was taken at the meeting. Bonner asked the board and Superintendent Morgan to get the transportation issues “situated” and to ensure routes reflect current addresses and pick‑up assignments.
