Board hears boundary‑change update; staff plans public hearings as hundreds of households respond to survey

Jordan School District staff updated trustees on a proposed set of school boundary changes, reporting outreach activity, survey uptake and an anticipated timeline for required public hearings and possible board action.

Assistant superintendent for planning reported the district had mailed roughly 16,229 postcards and provided ParentSquare notices; staff told trustees that 1,259 households would be directly impacted by the proposals and that survey responses exceed several hundred in each study area (for example, more than 300 responses for the Midas Creek area and more than 900 in the Northwest area). Two open houses were held (Midas Creek Elementary and Copper Hills High School), with attendance described as modest (eight attendees at Midas Creek; about 20 at Northwest open house).

Staff said the survey would remain open through Oct. 2 to coincide with the end of fall parent‑teacher conferences; a public comment period is planned for the Oct. 28 board meeting and a required public hearing is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) with potential board action on Nov. 18. Staff noted that if public feedback or scheduling concerns require changes, the board may adjust dates.

Trustees asked about school community council engagement and how schools would provide information to parents; staff said school community council meetings and additional school‑level presentations are underway and encouraged residents to review the district’s boundary workbook and attend hearings. No boundary motions were taken at the study session; the board will consider the formal hearings and any action at business meetings in October–November.
