The Cloverdale Historic Preservation Board approved changes made to a detached storage building and exterior siding at 968 East Fairview with conditions including window muntins and staff approval of final paint color.
Applicant Ernest Entz and his wife told the board they had begun interior repairs and replaced rotten exterior material on a detached storage building; they installed Hardie (fiber-cement) siding where the building previously had OSB or other nonhistoric material. Entz said a window that appears in the current elevation was already present and that another previously covered window had been uncovered and repaired.
Charlie Coleman, representing the Cloverdale Isle Association, told the board the association had no objection to the project but asked that staff's recommendations on window configuration, lighting and color be followed. Board members discussed window treatment: the board specified that windows be configured with a 6-over-6 pane appearance using applied (high-profile) muntins if the owner did not replace the sash, and agreed the new siding should be painted a more subdued earth tone rather than stark white.
A motion recorded at the meeting approved the work as installed with the exception that 6-over-6 muntins be added or applied in a high-profile configuration, and that the installed Hardie siding be painted with a color to be approved by Sean Rose and staff; acceptable colors were described as either matching the brick or the second-story infill. The motion was seconded and the board voted in favor.
The transcript shows the board emphasized aesthetics and compatibility with the house and surrounding streetscape; staff will review and approve final paint selection and muntin profile.
