Staff schedules public presentation on city climate action plan at Juliet Hampton Morgan Library

Warren Adams, a member of the city’s land use staff, announced a public presentation of the draft city climate action plan that staff will hold at the Juliet Hampton Morgan Memorial Library, 245 High Street, on a Wednesday in early October from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Adams invited board members and the public to attend informally; he said there will be a scheduled presentation during the event and attendees “don’t need to be there for the full 3 hours.”

The draft recommendations are grouped into seven topic areas: buildings, energy, transportation, land use and zoning, urban forestry, agriculture and waste. Adams said several recommendations — including adopting green building standards, installing solar panels and increasing tree cover — could affect the Historic Preservation Board’s work on building treatment and materials.

Adams asked board members to note that the plan includes guidance on reusing existing buildings and salvaging materials from structures that are demolished. He encouraged board members and residents to attend and review the draft recommendations.

Board members did not take formal action during the announcement; the item was informational only.
