The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Commission approved a contract with Grindline — a national skateboard-park design and construction firm — to design a future skate park at Regner Park, and accepted a $49,250 donation from the Friends of West Bend Skatepark to finance most of the design contract. Ryan (Parks, Recreation and Forestry staff) said Grindline’s proposed contract is $50,830 and that $49,250 of that amount will be funded by a Friends of West Bend Skatepark donation; staff said the donation is fully coming from Mike Nast.\n\nRyan described Grindline’s scope: the firm will design a skate park that can be constructed in three phases, host public input meetings, produce renderings for fundraising and create construction documents for bidding. Ryan said Grindline has more than 20 years of industry experience and a portfolio of Wisconsin work including Portage, Wauwatosa, Milwaukee, Sun Prairie and Sheboygan. "If approved, the contract requires Grindline to design the future West Bend skate park that can be constructed in 3 phases," Ryan said.\n\nStaff described procurement steps and timing: the city issued an RFP, received two proposals, and selected Grindline based on interview scores and cost. City attorney Ian reviewed and approved the contract, Ryan said. With commission approval, staff will present the contract to the Common Council on Oct. 6; Grindline representatives are scheduled for an Oct. 15 site visit followed by a community input meeting that evening.\n\nThe commission approved the contract by voice vote. Friends of West Bend Skatepark board members and staff said fundraising will continue to fund construction, which is expected to proceed after design, community input and fundraising milestones.
