Vice Mayor Dan Henderson presented the police department report prepared by Chief Craft, saying several crime categories trended down year‑over‑year and that the department is operating with an approximately 81% clearance rate. "You might recall that it was up a little bit higher at, 88%, but, 80—81% is still, above the national average," he said.
The report recorded six drug crimes with six adult arrests and $7,004 seized during operations that included four search warrants. The department responded to three overdoses during the reporting period. Traffic enforcement entries showed 182 traffic contacts with 143 citations and 19 warnings, five alcohol‑related DUIs, and 20 crashes (14 reportable and six non‑reportable). The report noted three hit‑and‑run incidents, one of which occurred on private property.
A bank robbery on Sept. 9 was reported; the report said the suspect was later identified and warrants are on file. The department is also conducting training and community engagement: the Citizens Police Academy is nearing graduation, SPIRIT team training was ongoing, and fall firearms qualifications were in progress.
The chief participated in statewide and local meetings, including a public safety meeting with Representative Danny Short and a meeting involving a state senator to discuss regulation of "3 quarter houses" (the transcript notes an earlier misstatement as "halfway houses"). The transcript records no formal council action on the police reports; the information was presented as departmental updates.
