Council approves final CDBG change order and contractor payments for Walnut, Chestnut and McGinnis projects

Council approved construction payment requests and a balancing change order on Sept. 23 for multiple public-works projects funded in part by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and other sources.

Derek (borough project staff) told council that the 9100 block of Walnut Street CDBG project finished under budget on many unit-price items; the balancing change order reduced the contract by $25,205. After retaining 5% and holding some grading items pending final work, the borough approved application for payment No. 2 in the amount of $257,746.87 to begin closing out the Walnut Street project. Derek said the subbase was in good condition and the tighter handicap ramp work reduced sidewalk quantities.

Council also approved application for payment No. 2 for the 800 block of Chestnut Street in the amount of $21,242.16 and approved payment No. 2 to Iron Eagle Excavating for the McGinnis Innovation Park project for $92,562.44. Council members received a project update on McGinnis Innovation Park and were told there was no cause for concern on schedule.

Why it matters: Approving change orders and final applications for payment documents project completion, release of retainage on public-works contracts and corrects contract amounts prior to final closeout. The actions will allow the borough to finalize CDBG-funded construction records and move toward final acceptance.
