The Seaford School District presented its second Hall of Fame class at the city council meeting, introducing two inductees and describing their service to the district and community. A district representative said the Hall of Fame project began after the Seaford Board of Education created the program two years ago; the inaugural class had 12 members.
The district representative introduced the event and turned the presentation over to Miss Hastings, who described the first inductee, Dr. Mike Smith (referred to in the presentation as “Smitty”), as a longtime teacher, coach, building administrator, district administrator and school board member who served the district in many roles. Miss Hastings said, "Smitty, as we all dearly called him, was one of the few people that was a teacher in our school district, a coach... a building admin, a district administrator, school board member," and that he will be inducted into the second class.
The second inductee, Miss Hastings said, is Tricia Booth Newcomer, nominated for community service and leadership and noted as an alumnus from the class of 1993. "Our second inductee is someone who was nominated because of their community service and leadership," Miss Hastings said. Council members and family members joined the inductees for photos at the meeting; the city presented commemorative items on the council dais.
The presentation was ceremonial and informational in the council meeting record; no council action was recorded on the Hall of Fame item during the meeting.
