Heath Sexton, the county engineer, asked the Chilton County Commission on Sept. 23 to receive and award a series of annual bids for road materials and fuels ahead of the fiscal year start.
Sexton said bids were received for fuel and road materials and recommended awards. "For bid 26,003A, we had 3 bidders ... Campbell Oil Company, WH Thomas Oil Company and Petroleum Traders Corporation," he said, and asked the commission to accept the bids. Commissioners unanimously voted to receive and then to award multiple contracts following staff recommendations.
Key awards and actions the commission approved unanimously:
- Received only bid for the county jail gasoline contract; the commission voted to receive the bid without awarding and the county will negotiate the contract.
- Awarded delivered diesel and gasoline contracts (bids 26,003A and 26,004) to Petroleum Traders Corporation after staff noted they were the lowest when awarded together.
- Awarded drop‑point diesel (bid 26,003B) to W. H. Thomas Oil Company, the only bidder for that option.
- Awarded hot bituminous plant mix pickup (bid 26,007A) to Dunn Construction and option B (26,007B) to Asphalt Contractors, the only bidders in each category.
- Accepted multiple HDPE pipe bids and awarded delivered sizes 1548 inches to Ferguson Waterworks and the 12‑inch size to Southern Pipe; for pickup the commission awarded 12–48 inches to Southern Pipe based on specifications compliance.
- Accepted aggregate bids and awarded lowest bidders by size, including RMUSA Aggregates, Little River Materials, Vulcan Materials and APAC Alabama in the respective size categories; the engineer identified ALDOT stone numbers in the awards.
- Awarded reinforced concrete pipe pickup to Foley Products Company and split delivered awards between Foley and Ferguson for specific diameter ranges and equivalent arch pipes.
Sexton summarized specifications and delivery options throughout the presentation. Commissioners moved and seconded the motions, and the board recorded unanimous approval on the awarded items. The commission also accepted an annual janitorial supplies bid from Alabama Paper Products after a separate motion.
Why it matters: These contracts supply fuel, aggregate, pipe and paving materials used by the road department and other county divisions. Awarding vendors ahead of the fiscal year allows procurement and work scheduling to begin on October 1.
Next steps: Staff will finalize contracts and proceed with delivery or pickup arrangements under the awarded bids.
