A board member updated trustees on House Bill 675 and its advisory committee, which is meeting to review innovations in K–12 education. The board member said the committee will discuss career and technical education (CTE) in the morning session and assessments in the afternoon.
The board member named several committee participants: senators White, Ackberry, Lowe and Watson; representatives Mark Cochran, Sapicki, Haston and Slater; Commissioner Reynolds; and Chrissy McInturf, identified as the state board of education representative and a Washington County teacher. The presenter also said state and local education officials — including Dr. David Laird and Jonathan Criswell from the Department of Education, and representatives from Perry County and Metro Nashville — were scheduled to speak.
The board member said the committee’s work follows earlier discussions about teacher evaluations and that district representatives had conveyed concerns about the timing of assessment results, noting that test results sometimes arrive “in the middle of the summer,” limiting their usefulness for instructional adjustments. The board member said she plans to bring a recap of the committee’s findings back to the board.
No formal board action on HB 675 was taken at the Sept. 23 work session.
