The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 23 announced an opening on the Lawrence County Airport Authority Board tied to the expiration of the term held by James Farris Jr. The chairman told the meeting that county ordinance requires the board to announce such vacancies at two public meetings; this was the first of two required announcements. The incumbent, Mr. Farris, is eligible to reapply. Interested citizens may submit a letter expressing their desire to serve or appear at a public meeting to state their interest. The county also stated that applicants will be subject to a criminal background check; the chairman asked applicants who submit letters to sign a release so the county can perform the check and then destroy the release after the check is complete. The ending: The county will make a second public announcement at a later meeting and then proceed with its standard appointment process for authorities.
