Board approves MOU with city allocating costs for 910 Ridgely Road occupancy

The Murfreesboro City Schools Board of Education on Sept. 23 approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the City of Murfreesboro that outlines occupancy responsibilities and cost allocation for the property at 910 Ridgely Road. Doctor Duke told the board MCS will assume responsibility for 90% of shared costs for the portions of the building used by the school district, with the city paying the remaining 10% for its designated suites. Costs attributed solely to one party will remain that party’s responsibility. The MOU also covers authorization for projects, invoicing, emergency repairs and an amendment process. Doctor Duke said the 90/10 split approximates the division of actual space in the building (the city suite is roughly 10.3 percent), and that the parties agreed to round to 10% for simplicity during the purchase negotiations. He said conversations about shared occupancy began during the building purchase process and that the MOU formalizes the working agreement between the city and the district. The board approved the MOU by voice vote with no recorded opposition; staff will follow the MOU provisions for invoicing and project approvals going forward.
