Board renews emergency relocation bus agreement with Rutherford Collegiate Prep

The Murfreesboro City Schools Board of Education on Sept. 23 approved a one-year emergency relocation transportation agreement with Rutherford Collegiate Prep, renewable annually for up to four years. Under the agreement, MCS would provide buses and drivers to move Rutherford Collegiate Prep students and staff to a safe location if the private school experiences an emergency requiring relocation. District staff said the Murfreesboro Police Department would coordinate the relocation; MCS’s role is limited to transporting students and staff — the district would not assume control of the students while transporting them. Rutherford Collegiate Prep would reimburse MCS for any overtime costs incurred by the district. Board members asked where the private school is located; staff described it as near the edge of the city limits by the I-840 and Veterans Boulevard intersection and said the district would not disclose the relocation destination but that a location is identified in planning. The board approved the contract renewal by voice vote; no individual dissent was recorded. The agreement represents a mutual-aid style arrangement for emergency student transport and is intended to be used only when Rutherford Collegiate Prep lacks the buses or driver capacity needed during an emergency.
