Murfreesboro schools approve six-year capital plan with roofs, buses and HVAC upgrades

The Murfreesboro City Schools Board of Education on Sept. 23 approved the district’s annual capital improvement plan, updating projected major projects over the next six years. Doctor Duke presented the plan and noted the board last approved a revision on Sept. 24, 2024. Major projects slated for the current fiscal year include roof replacements at Scales and Cason Lane, multiple floor coverings at Mitchell-Neilson Elementary, ceiling renovations at Bradley Academy, the purchase of five replacement buses and a special education growth bus, new maintenance vehicles and HVAC replacement with energy updates at the central office. Superintendent-level staff explained that after consultation with city staff the district combined two previously staggered roof projects into the same fiscal year while keeping the overall price point unchanged from the August workshop version of the plan. The board approved the plan following a motion and second; no dissent was recorded in the meeting minutes. The approved board plan will guide the district’s capital requests to the city and help staff prioritize procurement and scheduling. Doctor Duke said the staff will continue to update the plan annually based on changing needs and coordination with city partners.
