Millersville approves conditional offer to sole applicant, reopens police hiring list

Millersville Borough Council approved a conditional offer of employment to the last candidate on the current civil service eligibility list and voted to reopen recruitment to fill an open vacancy in the police department.
Ken Eckert of the borough civil service board told council only one applicant, Michael Ebersol, remained on the eligibility list and that, under civil service rules, the borough may make a conditional offer if the candidate completes required evaluations. "He is the last applicant... he has completed everything up to our rules and regulations that say we can offer him a conditional hire as long as he passes the physical and psychological," Eckert said.
Council voted to approve the conditional offer pending those evaluations and then approved a separate motion to reopen the hiring process and advertise for new candidates to fill the remaining vacancy. The approvals were given by voice vote.
Council members and the chief noted the approvals will allow the department to proceed with training and certification once the candidate clears the required tests.
