Staff said the scope is design‑oriented — to create integrated donor recognition elements and specifications that would be included in architectural plans and bidding documents — not to hire an outside fundraiser to solicit donors. “It’s not paying for the fundraising. It’s paying for the design and determining what elements we would potentially offer to donors or what fundraising opportunities like bricks or things within the building or around the building,” staff said. The consultant will prepare alternatives, consult with council about preferences and yield a preferred approach that can be used during fundraising.
Council members asked why the work had not been incorporated earlier in the project design; staff said the council had discussed donor recognition in earlier conceptual phases and that the project is now at a point in schematic design where integrating recognition elements into the plans is appropriate. One council member noted concerns about timing of notice for pulled consent items and asked for earlier discussion on similar items in the future.
