Board proclaims September workforce development month, highlights Arapahoe Douglas Works outcomes

Arapahoe Douglas Works (AD Works) staff told commissioners the agency provided more than 8,000 workforce services to about 1,900 Douglas County residents in the last program year. Staff said nearly 700 residents received in-person services at the Douglas County Career Center and nearly 900 attended job-readiness workshops. AD Works said it provided job-readiness workshops to more than 400 justice-involved individuals at the Douglas County Justice Center; 123 of those requested follow-up one-on-one career advising. AD Works also described employer outreach, including connecting 30 employers at a job fair and coordinating 65 businesses at a school career expo attended by about 500 students. AD Works staff reported that average wage placement for program participants exceeded $21 per hour and that, for every public dollar invested in AD Works, the economic return is $7.97 in new worker earnings.
Commissioners and AD Works staff also noted partnerships that link workforce data and training to Arapahoe Community College and the Douglas County School District, and highlighted the agency’s role in supporting county homeless outreach through workforce connections.
Action taken: The board read and approved a resolution recognizing workforce development month; the motion passed unanimously. Commissioners thanked AD Works for its role in the county’s workforce and homeless outreach efforts.
Next steps: AD Works invited businesses and job seekers to connect with the career center and partners for ongoing services; commissioners said the county will continue to support such workforce initiatives.
