Mount Pleasant City Council voted Sept. 23 to table adoption of a proposed Transportation Master Plan after staff and the consultant reported outstanding work on the plan’s pavement management section. Staff said the draft is substantially complete but that a final pavement management plan had late changes and remaining figures that need to be resolved before formal adoption.
City staff told council members the current draft can still be used to support funding applications for road projects, but the final document requires completion before the council formally adopts the plan. Council members had asked about the population projection used in the plan; staff said the plan’s estimate is higher than the city’s typical 2% annual growth assumption and that consultants pulled numbers from broader regional or annexation scenarios.
A council member moved to table adoption until the consultant completes the outstanding items in the pavement management plan; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote. Staff said they will ask the consultant to finish the final edits and return an updated draft for formal adoption at a future meeting.
