Advisory board sets interview schedule and discusses reappointment process for open seats

Library Director Corey Bridal told the board the online application for city boards and commissions is live and summarized the appointment timeline: applications must be forwarded to the mayor by December and appointments are made at the December city council meeting to take effect in January. The board discussed whether to interview applicants in October or November and ultimately agreed on an October meeting and a November interview date. After discussion the board set its next meeting for Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. and agreed to schedule candidate interviews on Nov. 20 (interviews to be held in the evening). Bridal said the board has in the past interviewed every applicant and that the board may choose instead to present names of incumbent members to the mayor for reappointment without reinterviewing. Members raised a procedural concern about one open position that represents residents outside city limits and asked Bridal to contact City Recorder Rachel Thomas for direction on how to present or advertise that vacancy. The board did not make a formal appointment at the meeting; it agreed on dates and asked staff to clarify whether incumbent reappointments can be submitted without repeat interviews and to confirm how the open seats are listed on the city's application page.
