The department's open house is scheduled for Oct. 6 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Fire Station 1, the chief said. On open burning, the chief told the council the city allows small recreational fires without a permit when they meet size limits, describing the allowance as "3 feet by 3 feet with flames no higher than 3 feet." For larger piles, the chief said a burn permit is required and must be obtained at city hall; additional extinguishment requirements apply for permitted burns. The report was informational. The department encouraged residents to attend the open house and said fire rigs remain ready as the fall fire season begins; the chief said the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will increase staffing as conditions warrant.
