Anoka County sergeant reports August low in calls, details three notable arrests

At the Sept. 22, 2025 East Bethel City Council meeting, Sgt. Scott Wicklund of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office delivered the monthly patrol report for August, saying deputies handled 413 calls for service that month and detailing several notable arrests. Wicklund said deputies made 29 arrests and conducted 167 traffic stops that produced 43 citations in August. He described three cases: a drug arrest on Aug. 12 after Deputy Kirchner stopped a vehicle on Highway 65 and observed paraphernalia and a glass pipe; deputies seized approximately 181 grams of suspected narcotics and large amounts of cash, and a blood warrant was obtained for prosecution. Wicklund said the driver was later booked for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession. Wicklund also described a traffic stop in August in which Deputy Kirchner arrested a driver whose license was canceled; that driver was booked on a gross misdemeanor. And he described an Aug. 21 stop in which Deputy Martinez, working with a phone interpreter, conducted field sobriety testing and reported an initial PBT of 0.266 and a final breath test of 0.23; the driver was booked on gross misdemeanor DWI and an ignition interlock violation. "As we conclude the summer, our total call volume is 3,335 calls for this year, which is slightly above the 3,311 calls that we had responded to last year at this time," Wicklund told the council. He said trends show a decrease in assaults and crashes with injuries but an increase in theft-related incidents. Wicklund also announced the sheriff's office open house on Sept. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the main campus in Andover and invited residents to attend. The presentation was the council's opportunity to receive the sheriff's monthly report; no council action was taken on the report itself.
