Council approves contract amendment adding 6.28 lane miles to 2025 resurfacing; $324,482 budget adjustment approved

The Stonecrest City Council on Sept. 22 approved a contract amendment to the 2025 street resurfacing contract that adds 6.28 lane miles to the original 20.37 lane‑mile scope. Public Works Director Gaines told the council the contractor expected to finish current streets this week and, if the amendment were approved, would return with milling equipment to begin the newly added subdivisions immediately to avoid costly shutdowns. The agenda packet shows the additional cost for the added streets and change order is $324,482.04. Director Gaines also noted the contract amendment includes shoulder work on Hill Veil between Covington Highway and a nearby bridge. The council voted to approve the amendment by a 4–1 margin. Councilmember Tammy Grimes asked whether city quality‑control inspections would occur; Director Gaines said the city employs a full‑time construction site inspector who reviews daily work and receives vendor tickets. Councilmember Tara Graves asked whether the $324,482 would delay sidewalk construction; staff replied the funds were recommended to be moved from the sidewalk construction line because sidewalk construction design is not yet at the construction phase and funds would otherwise roll into a later fiscal year. Staff said LMIG and other future capital receipts could be used to replenish or fund the sidewalks in FY26. A resolution attached to the agenda authorizes a contract amendment with Blunt Construction Company Inc. for additional work in an amount not to exceed $948,627.94 and a 30‑day extension to complete the additional work; the record shows the amendment and budget adjustment were approved and signatures were requested for prompt execution so the contractor can proceed.
