Council members praise volunteer-led litter walks and encourage community participation

At the Sept. 22 council meeting a council member commended Savannah Stocktons volunteer-led litter walks in District 2 and urged other council members to encourage participation in their districts.
The council member described attending two litter walks and said volunteers collected five bags of trash at the most recent event, that the effort noticeably improved two streets and that volunteer participation has been small despite the visible results. The council member asked colleagues to promote the effort and, where they cannot participate physically, to support and encourage people in their districts to take part.
City staff thanked the council for the endorsement and said they would attempt to help promote the volunteer activity. No formal action was taken; the remarks were made as public comment/announcements near the end of the meeting.
