A neighborhood resident addressed trustees during non-agenda public comment on Sept. 22 to describe hazardous pickup and drop-off conditions near the Back North campus.
Becky Weincoop told trustees that congestion during dismissal had grown worse this year: drivers turning across yards, vehicles driving over curbs and sidewalks to bypass blocks of parked cars, and a school bus blocked from maneuvering because cars had lined both lanes. She described near-miss incidents, blocked driveways and aggressive behavior by drivers who ignored waiting rules.
Trustee and administration responses: Superintendent Peters and Back North principal (Miss Speed) were present; the superintendent said the district is “working on a solution,” that she and the principal had already discussed the concern, and she invited the resident to provide contact information so staff could follow up. The board did not take formal action; administration said it would continue traffic-safety work and coordinate with local authorities as needed.
Why it matters: the remarks raised neighborhood safety and traffic management for a campus dismissal pattern that trustees and staff said requires operational changes, enforcement or alternate pickup arrangements to reduce risk to pedestrians and property.
