The El Campo City Council on Sept. 22 approved Resolution R2025-49 to renew the citys employee health insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.
City staff and the citys insurance agent, Coby Rod, told the council the proposal moves the city from a preferred provider organization (PPO) plan to a health-maintenance-organization (HMO) plan while retaining a broad provider network. City staff stated the HMO network would cover roughly 98% of the providers in the current plan. Employees will have the option to purchase a supplemental buy-back to maintain coverage comparable to the prior plan if they choose.
Council members thanked the agent and staff for negotiating a plan described as affordable while maintaining local access to physicians. The council approved the resolution by motion, second and voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
