The proclamation text presented at the meeting stated that in the past year the center provided services to 1,061 clients and 6,970 nights of shelter for adults and children; a representative of the center, speaking after the proclamation, invited the public to participate in the centers Oct. 1 Walk a Mile in Their Shoes, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the center on Fulton Street and walking to the county courthouse; participants are escorted by Wharton Police Department and the event includes a short program and T-shirts.
Council members and the centers representative emphasized that the proclamation was intended to show public support for victims and survivors and to promote local awareness activities during October.
