Parks staff told the board that Hawthorne Park experienced a power outage at about 4 a.m. on Saturday and that the department is working with Duke Energy to restore service and determine responsibility for costs.
Staff said they do not currently expect costs to the parks department and characterized the situation as a “waiting game” pending Duke Energy action. Campground operations were reported largely unaffected except for limited services; staff said the campground remained the only park element open at one point during the outage.
Separately, staff reported the Amvets facility transition is complete. They said Amvets met the terms of the prior agreement, obtained keys and the power connections had been turned off as previously agreed. Staff plan to visit an open house the new tenant will host and noted the building currently sits idle while the department decides future uses or opportunities.
No formal board action or vote was recorded on either the outage response or the Amvets building status at the meeting.
