The Lindmar board approved a motion to sign an engagement letter with France Law Group so the district can be included in litigation related to a prior PowerSchool security incident.
Board members said the action will enroll the district in a mass action at no cost. “We were approached. School districts have been automatically enrolled into a class action lawsuit. This gives us the ability to be, enrolled in a mass action lawsuit at no cost to the district,” a board member said during discussion.
A board member asked whether the class-action details were available; staff said some elements of the filing remain sealed at this stage. Administrators reminded trustees that the district had earlier offered free credit- or identity-monitoring services to affected families after the breach and that this engagement is a follow-up to that incident.
District staff said the expected enrollment window is closer to December and that the engagement letter allows the district to join the action without incurring legal fees. The motion was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote. The board asked staff to provide further information to families and staff as the litigation timeline becomes clearer.
