Smyrna Mayor and Council on Sept. 26 authorized purchases to replace and equip 13 police vehicles budgeted for fiscal year 2026, city staff said.
The purchases are part of the FY26 budgeted allocation for police fleet replacement; the council approved three separate procurement items that together account for the 13 vehicles. Miss Robinson, a city staff member, presented the background and recommended awards.
For seven Ford police interceptors, Robinson said quotes were received and staff recommended an award to Hardy Chevrolet at a price noted in staff materials. "This first item is for 7 Ford police interceptors. Quotes were received for these on 09/04/2025," Robinson said. For two GMC Terrain vehicles purchased off the state contract, staff presented an all-in price that includes outfitting. Robinson also presented a final procurement item to purchase the remaining vehicles from Akins Ford, with outfitting and marking to be completed by named vendors; staff provided aggregate amounts during the presentation.
Council moved and voted to approve the purchase authorizations; individual motions carried unanimously. Councilmember Oglesby moved the first procurement item, and votes were recorded as carrying unanimously.
Details presented at the meeting: the award for the Ford interceptors was indicated to Hardy Chevrolet; two GMC Terrain vehicles were to be purchased from the state contract; the remaining vehicles were to be purchased from Akins Ford with outfitting by Dana Supply, graphics shop and Tint World. Staff noted a corrected total during the discussion but did not provide a clarified single final total on the council floor.
Next steps: Staff will complete purchase orders and coordinate outfitting and vehicle marking per the procurements approved by council. Final invoices and contract documents will follow standard purchasing procedures and will be executed by staff.
