Oldsmar Parks & Rec readies Veterans Day ceremony; city will record and post event

John Lindsay, Oldsmar's recreation supervisor, told the Veterans Advisory Board on Monday, Sept. 22, that planning for the Nov. 11 Veterans Day ceremony is largely complete and that the city is coordinating with MacDill Air Force Base for a speaker.
"If we had to put the event on today, minus the the keynote speaker, we'd be good," Lindsay said, describing preparations. Lindsay said the city is working with MacDill and that the base "do a really good job," while noting that military protocol requires time to confirm participation and details.
The department is also planning to record the ceremony for post-event posting rather than a live stream. "We're looking at a way to just figure out camera placement, maybe just record it," Lindsay said, and staff intend to share the recording with the city's marketing group to post on YouTube after the event.
Board members asked whether measures such as fans or shade would be needed for an outdoor Nov. 11 event; Lindsay said they will monitor weather but joked, "If it's 90 degrees on November 11, then we deserve it." Staff said they would continue outreach to local politicians and veterans' groups and would confirm logistics with the base.
No formal action was required; staff will continue planning and report back to the board as details are finalized.
