Election director reports 57,188 registered voters and outlines key November election dates

At a Sept. 23 special meeting, Lawrence County Election Director Tim Germani told the Board of Elections the county currently has 57,188 registered voters and reviewed deadlines and logistics ahead of the Nov. 4 general election.

Germani gave the party breakdown he had on file: 30,029 registered Republicans, 19,812 registered Democrats and 5,411 voters listed with no party affiliation. He said those figures are not final.

Germani said the county has ordered ballots and, “as long as everything goes well with the printer,” expects to begin mailing ballots in October. He reported the elections office had received 5,357 requests for mail ballots.

He reviewed key dates for voters: the last day to register for the November election is Oct. 20; the last day to apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot is Oct. 28; and voters may drop off ballots in person at the elections office or at the drop box until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 4. Germani also noted a second-Friday pre-election campaign finance filing is completed as of Oct. 20 and that those reports must be filed by Oct. 24.

Board members also noted that candidates for county court of common pleas had filed expense reports in Harrisburg, and Germani said he had a copy of those filings at the county office though they were filed officially in Harrisburg.

The board approved the minutes of the June 9 meeting at the start of the session by roll call vote. No substantive public comments were offered during the public comment periods at this meeting.
