The Policy and Procedures Committee approved a revision to the county’s sick-leave language on Sept. 22, adopting a more detailed set of rules about documentation and supervision for extended absences.
Staff provided copies of the prior and revised text; members said the revision adds several pages of guidance and a more specific physician documentation requirement for absences of several days. Department heads present said the new language is an improvement and will help supervisors identify potential abuse. The committee voted to accept the revision and authorized staff to prepare forwarding paperwork so the change can go to the full commission.
Committee members noted the revision is not final law until the full commission considers it, and they discussed the usual practice of returning to the committee for additional changes if necessary. The committee also agreed that the planned documentation requirement—physician notes for certain multi‑day absences—appears on the last page of the draft and was intended to raise verification standards for extended sick leave.
The motion to accept the revision was made and seconded; members approved the motion by voice vote. Staff said two commissioners will sign the forwarding sheet so the revision can be placed on the full-commission docket.
