Selectmen approve food-and-beverage vendors for Caffeine & Carburetors at Waveney Park

The New Canaan Board of Selectmen on Sept. 23 unanimously approved organizers’ request to allow food and beverage vendors at the Caffeine & Carburetors event scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, at Waveney Park.
The approval permits multiple food vendors — organizers said they expect three to four food trucks, two of which already appear on the town’s approved vendor list — to sell items during the already-approved show. The organizer said the event raises money for the New Canaan Conservancy and that last year’s edition raised “over $24,000” as the group seeks to exceed that total this year.
Organizers told the board they have coordinated event logistics with town staff, emergency services, CERT and parks personnel to reduce congestion. “We have a clear plan for traffic flow…only registered vehicles are actually allowed to proceed in park,” an event organizer said, explaining that unregistered vehicles would be directed back to surrounding roads such as Lapham and South Avenue. The organizer also said shuttle buses will run approximately every 15 minutes from the Tomah Jill and Lumberyard lots to reduce demand for on-site parking and encourage guests to park off-site.
Event staff described a placard system for show cars and said show cars are instructed to arrive by 7:30 a.m. and must remain parked until the event ends at 11 a.m. Organizers said volunteers will be on site as early as 5:30 a.m. to assist with early arrivals and that event staff stay in close contact with John Howe regarding field status in the lead-up to the event.
Selectmen discussed noise and vehicle revving in past years; an organizer said volunteers will monitor and discourage revving and asked owners to be respectful of nearby residential areas. The board made the approval contingent on vendors following the usual town permitting and approval processes.
The vote to amend the agenda to add the item and the subsequent motion to approve the vendor request were both recorded as unanimous.
Organizers said the event has capacity for about 1,500 show cars but acknowledged the exact number who will attend depends on registrations. The board and organizers emphasized safety, traffic flow and compliance with vendor permitting as conditions of the approval.
The event will proceed as part of the already-approved Caffeine & Carburetors show; food-and-beverage vendors are now authorized to sell products during that event on Oct. 19, 2025, at Waveney Park.
