Council approves final plat for American Prairie fifth edition subdivision

City planning staff presented a final plat resolution Sept. 23 for the American Prairie development’s fifth edition, and the City Council approved the resolution by voice vote.
Seth Gunnarsson, zoning administrator, explained the fifth edition covers about 12.6 acres and lays out 50 single-family lots plus one lettered lot for public right-of-way. Gunnarsson said the streets, lots and public improvements in the final plat are consistent with an already-approved preliminary plat for the larger American Prairie development. He noted a planned unit development overlay on the north part of the overall site allows attached single-family or townhome buildings and anticipated mixed commercial uses in the northeast corner. Gunnarsson said the development will include street lighting placed consistent with city standards and a trail that could extend in the future.
Councilmember Benorini said he had pulled the item from consent to discuss the development’s scale and community impacts, asking how much of the overall project is built and where park/open space and wetlands are located. Gunnarsson replied that earlier additions have homes under construction and identified a parcel intended to be dedicated as open park space and a wetland area retained on the site.
Councilmember Todd moved to approve the resolution; it was seconded and carried by voice vote. No recorded roll-call vote appears in the meeting minutes excerpt.
