The Fremont County Board of County Commissioners unanimously adopted a proclamation recognizing October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and urged residents to support local services that assist victims.
Sarah Fisher of Family Crisis Services asked the board to adopt the proclamation and provided statistics cited in the text of the resolution, noting national exposure figures and the local need for resources. "This is what we do. So we service all of Fremont County and Custer County in matters related to sexual assault and domestic violence," Fisher said, and she provided the organization’s local 24‑hour hotline: (719) 275‑2429.
Commissioners thanked Family Crisis Services and urged community awareness. "One in four women and one in seven men — those are startling numbers," Commissioner Grantham said, emphasizing that domestic violence is often hidden and that community members should watch for opportunities to help. The board approved the proclamation by roll call vote; the motion passed unanimously.
